The Rotaract Club of Chinatown – Manila supports the Rotary International and its partners in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) – the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in advocating the “End Polio Now” which began since 1988. Rotary began immunizing children against polio in 1985. Its main goals are fundraising, advocacy, and volunteer recruitment. Rotary club members all over the world have volunteered their time and personal resources to reach more than two billion children in 122 countries with the help of oral polio vaccine. Rotary International has been committed to eradicating polio worldwide since 1985, gathering millions of volunteers, creating awareness and fundraising activities to provide immunization and vaccination campaigns. Rotary club members all over the world have volunteered their time and personal resources to reach more than two billion children in 122 countries with the help of oral polio vaccine. To this date, the number of polio cases has decreased to 99% worldwide. But it doesn’t end there, Rotary members are confident that a 100% isn’t impossible to achieve. The main goal of this campaign is not to lower down the rate of polio, but to put a final end to it, because as long polio threatens even one child, children and even adults will remain at risk. Some initiative from our fellow Rotaractors: The end polio campaign and Rotary Logo at the SM Mall of Asia LED globe. Rotary International marks October 24, 2011 as World Polio Day. RAC-Chinatown – Manila members and officers alike took the initiative to join and advocate the virtual pledge of END POLIO NOW. Day by day, more and more Rotaractors started to create their virtual pledge at http://www.thisclose.net/making the Philippines at the top 5. They boldly share their virtual pledge by making it their profile picture in their account on facebook, a social networking service and website. In their own little way, they were able to share this information to their family and friends. RAC-Chinatown – Manila is very happy to have been part of the END POLIO Campaign.
Once eradicated, polio will join smallpox as the only two human diseases ever eradicated, fulfilling Rotary’s promise to create a polio-free world. Comments are closed.
