Last February 23, 2012, in line with the celebration of Rotary International Anniversary, the Rotaract Club of Chinatown-Manila was invited by Rotaract Club of Mapua Institute to their Sky Lantern Event. Also present during the celebration were Rotaract Clubs namely: RAC DLSU, RAC SIC, and RAC PATTS. The event was held at Baluarte de San Augustin, Intramuros.
Participants from the different Rotaract Clubs enjoyed the sky lantern activity, as some of them just experienced it for the first time. Before the activity began, participating Rotaract Clubs members were briefly introduced to one another. Participants also got to enjoy the beautiful fireworks that went on nearby. The activity started by forming groups of three participants. At first, most of the participants were clueless on what to do. After Rotaractros from RAC Mapua gave instructions, the participants then helped one anther’s lanterns until they flew to a certain level in the sky. Rotaractros had not only experienced a new activity, but they also developed the value of patience, perseverance, and teamwork. The Rotaractors had to exercise patience as they waited for the proper level of fire in the lantern to be reached in order for it to rise on its own. Perseverance enabled the Rotaractors to hold the lantern properly even though the hot wax was already streaming down to their hands just to make sure that they were doing their task properly. Teamwork was key since the activity was totally a collective effort of the team. It just cannot be accomplished without helping one another. Seeing that their team effort had led to the success of the activity brought about a lot of satisfaction on the part of the Rotaractors. The event was indeed a fun yet unique learning experience for the Rotaract Club of Chinatown-Manila and other Rotaract Clubs! Congratulations to Rotaract Club of Mapua Institute!
